Par For This Course.

One week ago today our world was turned upside down when Sawyer began experiencing kidney failure.  We thought it was going to be literally turned upside down here on the 8th floor of the Children's Hospital as it started swaying and shaking during the earthquake today.

I started unplugging Sawyer from his machines.  I didn't know how to get the catheter out of his bladder.  So, I just handed the "pee bag" to Karen and said "let's go". Karen thought the nurses would stop me, but they said they wanted to go too.

Karen and I laughed so hard when it was over.  We thought, "Par for this course.  Why not throw an earthquake into the mix?!?".  Grateful for the laughter!

I was kind of hoping that all that shaking going on was your mountain splashing into the ocean...know that even when the earth shakes...our God remains steady. Prayers remain steadfast too...Kathy

oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! What a faith you have already grown to prepare you for this. I know the Lord will continue to provide faith for you in good measure for all you need. Such a blessing & ministry to see you rely on Him like you are. Blessings

Thanks for the laughter - probably the only time in history we can say that TOBY picked up a pee bag!! Of course, we did notice that you said you handed it to Karen.
Just shows you that God is still shaking and moving!!
Love you guys!!

Karen & Toby,
You do not know me but I heard about Sawyer thru Abundant Hope Baptist Church. I as well as my kids have been lifting Sawyer up in our prayers by name daily and praying God brings laughter and comfort to him soon. I will check in everyday to your blog and be there for you in prayer through the downs and the many, many ups:) My heart goes out to you and your family and God Bless you all.

Well it looks like the rest that you all were hoping for was "shaken up" just a bit....how awesome that you and your wife can see the humor in the craziness of the day. I agree with Barb...a merry heart does good indeed!! Praying for you all still...

We believe God has provided a "stone of remembrance" for the DeBause family today, as HE allowed the earth under our feet to be shaken, reminding us that HE IS IN CONTROL, and in the midst of it all...He brought some laughter into your circumstances. Laughter is like a medicine for our souls, the scriptures say! Just like we could not control the quaking of the ground under us, we can not control all the circumstances that come into our lives however, we do know the ONE who has control "over the heavens and the earth, and all that is within it". You will not forget today; it will be a day of remembrance. We will rest in the truth that God has Sawyer's circumstances within His watchful eye - caring for Sawyer and Sawyer's family, every moment of every day! Oh how HE LOVES YOU...oh how WE love you!
